Pre-Existing Condition
Written by Tony Award nominee Marin Ireland and directed by Tony Award nominee Maria Dizzia, Pre-Existing Condition is a thought-provoking production that invites reflection on past and present relationships. Although the cast features several notable performers, Lupita Nyong’o is the principal lead through Thursday, September 26, 2026; the production continues through January 8, 2027. The play examines the profound challenges following abuse and the resulting life-altering consequences. It highlights a statistic indicating that one in three women will experience violence from a man. A figure that may be understated given the prevalence of unreported incidents. It is important to recognize that relationship violence encompasses physical, mental, and emotional abuse, all of which can be deeply draining. Despite its intense subject matter, I recommend this 75-minute production; it is a compelling work that will undoubtedly prompt reflection. Tickets may be purchased directly through the Greenwich House Theatre website, the venue hosting the production in New York City.
